Pre-Season: Doncaster Rovers 3 - 1 Hull City

Hull City`s pre-season preparations suffered their first defeat last night as they lost to League 1 side Doncaster Rovers.

Despite taking an early lead through Doncaster`s debutant defender Rob Jones turning the ball into his own net, City could not extend that advantage when given the opportunity to from the penalty spot after Sone Aluko was fouled. Tom Cairney took the penalty, crashing his effort against the underside of the bar.

Despite holding a deserved advantage at the break, improvement from Doncaster and a series of substitutions from City saw the match swing in the home side`s favour. Martin Woods scored his first and Doncaster`s equaliser from long range before Morgan-Smith prodded in their second, worryingly injuring Ben Amos in doing so.

A harsh penalty against Sonny Bradley allowed Woods to convert past Jankupovic as City`s much changed line-up failed to cope with the League 1 promotion hopefuls.

City used the fixture to field trialist Mark Fotheringham, with Bruce admitting "he did well." The former Norwich City, Celtic and Dundee midfielder has indeed appeared to have done enough to warrant inclusion at Hartlepool on Saturday.

Still, pre-season is seen as a time for fitness and not necessarily the results, although City will look to make amends at Hartlepool on Saturday. Before that, the development squad travels to Boston United tonight. Vital Hull will be there, and you can follow Twitter updates by following us using the Twitter icon below.
