City continue Koren extension talks

Talks with Robert Koren are thought to be progressing well despite the Slovenian having held discussions with Championship rivals Leicester City.

Former City manager Nigel Pearson has met the minimum fee release clause in Koren`s contract with a bid in the region of £500,000, meaning that Koren can talk to City`s Championship rivals. Those discussions have so far been conducted through the midfielder`s agent, Sam Stapleton, who represents the player, believes an extended deal at the KC is close.

City have offered Koren improved terms to extend his stay to the end of 2014, although last season`s player of the year retains hopes of securing a deal to the end of 2015 as he targets one last shot at the Premier League, an achievement he hopes to realise with The Tigers.

Koren`s agent believes the desire of City to retain the midfielder has pleased Koren, who will be looking to return to pre-season preparations when City travel to Hartlepool on Saturday. The Tigers latest pre-season fixture saw the development squad draw 2-2 at Boston United. Goals from Jonny Margetts and Mark Cullen looked to have handed City the win after Boston took the lead, but a quickly taken free-kick in the 3rd minute of stoppage time at the end of the second half, when Mark Oxley was unaware lining up his defensive wall, saw Boston equalise.
