Report: Charlton Athletic 0 - 0 Hull City

Hull City`s failings in front of goal continued to haunt manager Steve Bruce as he saw his side draw a blank at Charlton Athletic.

In three Championship outings, City have managed just one goal, although the defence has continued to look solid, conceding just the once also. Against Charlton, in what was the only 0-0 draw across all four divisions, Bruce can at least take some satisfaction from the fact his team dominated for large parts of the second half and should have won the game.

An even first-half had see Charlton predominantly threaten from corners, former Tiger Leon Cort being the most dangerous while Bradley Wright-Phillips saw a deflected effort well handled by Amos. City, who fielded the same formation and starting eleven as against Blackburn on Wednesday night, still forced the best chance of the half when Hamer denied Sone Aluko after being fed through on goal by Nick Proschwitz. However, the former Rangers man could only shoot straight at Hamer who would later keep his team in the game.

The torrential rain and thunder storms of half-time and early in the second half seemed to lift City`s game and they coped better with the conditions, although Charlton felt aggrieved at a disallowed goal for offside. As City pressed at the other end, the best chances arrived as Jay Simpson was introduced.

City`s only scorer in the league this season, Simpson was first played through but shot wide of the far post when well positioned. He was then denied by Hamer as the game entered added time, before Hamer rose quickly to deny Aluko brilliantly on the rebound.

As City continued to press, Simpson evaded two defenders but his shot from the edge of the area was held by Hamer as City had to settle for a point at what should provide a difficult venue for most sides in the Championship.
