Hull City produced their best performance under Steve Bruce as they defeated promotion hopefuls Bolton Wanderers at the KC Stadium.
Bruce persisted with a 3-5-2 formation, utilising new recruits Ahmed Elmohamady and Stephen Quinn, as Jay Simpson was rewarded with a starting place following his goal at Doncaster and impressive cameo at Charlton a week before.
Bolton included new recruit Jay Spearing and looked to force the early pressure. Despite an indifferent start from both sides, it was the away team which took the lead as a Chris Eagles free-kick from over 30 yards took a slight deflection to fly past Amos, although the on loan Manchester United keeper would have expected to have done better.
City responded soon after. Elmohamady, who had been a constant attacking threat down the right fed Koren. His deflected cross fell into the path of Sone Aluko, and the former Rangers man made no mistake as his effort was deflected into the net.
The second half saw City start in stunning fashion. Stephen Quinn`s corner was headed in by Abdoulaye Faye, who towered above Bogdan in the Bolton goal just a minute into the second half before Jay Simpson fed Quinn after some outstanding work to score from close range just two minutes later.
Bolton were clearly stunned by City`s start, and Koren saw a weak effort easily saved, Quinn saw his long range effort brilliantly kept our by Bogdan and Faye saw his header from a Koren corner strike one post, roll across the line and bounce away after hitting the other post, Sone Aluko unable to react to put the ball into the empty net.
City did sit back after Aluko was substituted with injury but Bolton rarely troubled Amos as City saw out a comfortable victory, the margin of which did not flatter a rampant City.
