Success at Leeds earns Bruce weekly LMA award

Hull City have won the League Managers Association "Performance of the Week" award following their 3-2 win at Leeds United, ending a 25 year wait for victory at Elland Road.

Steve Bruce will be presented with the award in the near future after a panel of five current and former serving managers deemed City`s Tuesday night win to be the pick of the performances this week.

Bruce`s winning of the award followed The Tigers 3-2 victory, a feat achieved after coming from behind after Becchio had given Leeds the early advantage from the penalty spot after a controversial penalty won be El Hadji Diouf. Although the linesman initially awarded a free-kick, the referee deemed the challenge to be in the area, allowing Becchio to beat Amos despite the best efforts of the on loan keeper.

Fortunately, City weren`t derailed by the early set-back having gained confidence from convincing wins against Bolton Wanderers and Millwall. On loan Sunderland wing-back Elmohamady equalised after some poor defending from the home side before crossing for Abdoulaye Faye to head in six minutes later to give City a deserved lead at half-time.

The game was effectively sealed when a stunning counter-attack started with Jay Simpson, progressed through Evans and Elmohamady before captain Robert Koren scored at the far post. Although Leeds earned a stoppage time consolation through Andy Gray, City were not to be denied a memorable victory that saw them keep pace with the early leaders, 4th in the table and one point behind current unbeaten leaders Blackburn Rovers.
