Hull City`s opening game of the 2013/14 season ended with a 2-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge - here are what the managers and players had to say.
First half goals from Oscar and Frank Lampard saw Chelsea ease into a two goal lead, that advantage kept at two due to the performance of Allan McGregor who saved a Frank Lampard penalty before Chelsea opened the scoring whilst also making a string of stunning saves throughout the game.
Our full match report will be published tomorrow but here are what the managers and players had to say following City`s 2-0 loss.
'The first 25 to 30 minutes it was unstoppable. When they play with the fluidity that they did; they were a constant threat. We had to dig in big style."
'Not many teams could live with that intensity. For us to stick at it was terrific.'
'The second half it is human nature to take the foot off the gas. Today we had a rampant Chelsea and in the first half we simply weren't good against them, there's no shame in that.'
On his team selection, Bruce said; 'You have to be kind to the players who got you here, and believe it or not we've been trying to work on a system to play against Chelsea for two, three weeks.'
'It is three points and no doubt a deserved victory. 'It was a brilliant first half. High intensity, high quality."
'The second half was not the same as the first but that is not a surprise because our pre-season has not been an easy one. It was a very good level. The game was always under control.''
On his return, Mourinho said; "'It is something we don`t forget. I made the right move by coming back; I am one of them and I am so pleased and happy. I need my team to be supported and I need the fans to sing the players` names."
"Enough with Mourinho now and come on Chelsea. It`s enough, I know they love me."
Steve Bruce on the 2nd Goal
'I'd like to see the free kick because I don't believe it was a free kick."
'Allan (McGregor) might be honest enough to say he should have stopped it because it was a long way out, but it was a terrific strike.'
Frank Lampard - Scorer of Chelsea`s 2nd Goal
"'It was very sharp from the start. In the first half we moved the ball quickly,' Lampard told Sky Sports. If we play like that we`ll give most teams a game."
"We were so bright in that first half that there is bound to be a come down in the second. We`ll take the positives of the first half."
Tom Huddlestone - Hull City debutant as a 2nd half substitute.
Speaking on Twitter, Huddlestone said; "Thanks for the great reception today! Was a tough game as expected but thought the lads showed good grit and determination throughout."
