City`s focus reverts to the Premier League this weekend as they face a daunting trip to the Etihad to face Manchester City, a side looking to show last weekend`s result at Cardiff City was merely a blip.
It is results such as Cardiff City 3 - 2 Manchester City that will give Steve Bruce and his side hope. Cardiff showed that despite being second best for large portions of the game, opportunities will arise and providing these are taken, any team has a chance, even against more illustrious opponents.
Whilst Manchester City head into the game with a point to prove, City can travel with confidence after back to back wins. After securing their first points of the season with victory over Norwich City, Bruce saw a much changed side follow up that momentum with a league cup win over Leyton Orient after extra time on Tuesday night.
Manchester City Team News
Matija Nastasic is a key returnee for Saturday`s hosts and will take his place in the heart of the Manchester City defence in the absence of the injured Vincent Kompany. Javi Garcia, a defensive minded midfielder who filled in defensively last weekend will be making way.
Alvaro Negredo, a former City transfer target during the Paul Duffen and Phil Brown era of the club, could start after scoring his first goal for his new side in Cardiff.
Hull City Team News
Yannick Sagbo serves the second of his three game suspension following his red card against Norwich City with the absence of the Ivory Coast forward posing Steve Bruce a difficult decision as to who to play in the central striking role. Although Danny Graham has struggled so far and looked out of form, the on loan Sunderland forward is the favourite to be handed that role.
Another option for Bruce would be to push Robbie Brady into the central role after scoring two goals in his last two outings. Such a decision could see George Boyd drafted into the side or for Bruce to bring in Liam Rosenior at right-back to allow Ahmed Elmohamady to move further forward.
Other than the absence of Sagbo, Bruce has no new injury concerns. The game arrives too soon for Stephen Quinn and although he could earn a place on the bench, the Republic of Ireland international is more likely to feature in a fortnight against Cardiff City.
The two sides last met in the 2009/10 season with Hull City coming out on top over the two meetings. The last of those meetings came at the KC when a George Boateng goal earned a 2-1 win for Phil Brown`s side. It was however at the Etihad where City would make national headlines. The game finished 1-1 thanks to a late Jimmy Bullard penalty but it was his goal celebration, mocking the on-pitch team-talk by Phil Brown in 2008, for which the game is remembered.
City`s only other visit to the Etihad is of course that game in 2008. 4-0 down at half-time, Phil Brown infamously carried out his half-time team-talk on the pitch. An ill informed decision, City would go on to lose the game 5-1 but it was cited by many as the turning point of City`s season and reason behind their only narrow survival and ultimate relegation from the top flight the season after.

Facts and Statistics
Hull City`s last victory at Manchester City came in 1930, an FA Cup 5th round tie, the only time in eleven attempts away from home when City have returned the winners.
Should Manchester City take the lead, they would be considered strong favourites to go on to win having lost just one game from a leading position last season.
Although Cardiff showed Manchester City can be at risk aerially, especially from set pieces, the return of Nastasic will help ease City`s worries with Garcia able to concentrate on a more natural midfield role.
Last weekend shows that City have a chance of getting a positive result, no matter how slim that opportunity may be. Manchester City will dominate possession and will create multiple threats and opportunities but it is how the City defence and goalkeeper cope with these pressures that will be telling on the final result.
Cardiff showed that with good delivery from set-pieces and if the Manchester City defence can be turned, there could be opportunities for the strikers but these will need to be taken, adding pressure to whoever earns the central starting role.
Whilst we can travel in hope, the reality is that the title challengers are clear favourites for the match. City`s best hope is to keep the game tight early on and look to spring a counter-attack to get a goal.
