Slutsky Targets Strong Home Form

Slutsky Targets Strong Home Form

Hull City head coach Leonid Slutsky has said that strong home form will help us on our way this season as he's aiming for a strong promotion push.

Having opened our Championship campaign with a draw against Aston Villa on the opening day, we go into Saturday's clash against Burton Albion at the KCOM Stadium and the Russian gaffer knows that our home form will be vital to any promotion push back to the Premier League.

Speaking to the Official Site as he met with the media this midweek, Slutsky explained.

'It is very important that we are strong at home this season. Sometimes, it is very difficult to win all of your away matches but we must absolutely look to win our home matches. We must put serious attention on this and there is extra responsibility on me and the players to win home matches if we are to achieve our target of promotion. The supporters will also expect this and so home matches are very important for us.'

Slutsky went on to say.

'Saturday is my first match at the KCOM Stadium and it really is a very important one. It is an exciting one for me and I hope that as many fans as possible can come because I think the players deserve this - it's a new team and a new coach. I hope that we can see a good performance from the team and from the supporters.'

Michael Hector was also positive as he reflected on the draw against Aston Villa. Fighting back from a goal behind for him showed that a strong character exists within the group and that would undoubtedly help as the season progresses.

Slutsky's men dug in during a difficult first half before producing a strong display after half time to come from behind and take a point on the opening day, something that Hector is confident will be built upon.

'We started to grow into the game towards the end of the first half and had a couple of chances, and then we came out to dominate most of the first half. I thought that showed the character that we have here, to come back from that difficult opening, especially away from home.'

He went onto add.

'The away fans got us through it as well, and it felt like a decent performance in the second half. We could hear our fans throughout the game and it was great that they travelled down to support us. It was probably a fair result in the end because both teams created chances.'
