Slutsky Delighted With Larsson Capture

With yesterday's announcement of the free transfer of former Sunderland midfielder Seb Larsson to Hull City, head coach Leonid Slutsky has said he was delighted to have the opportunity to add somebody to the group with so much experience.

The 90 time capped Swedish international has over 500 appearances to his name in senior football having come through Arsenal's youth set up and spending time with Birmingham City and Sunderland and Slutsky told the Official Site that he couldn't wait to work with such a versatile player as he knows he can turn out on the wing, through the middle of midfield or even as a No 10.

'I am very happy that he has signed for us. It is very important to me that we sign players of a high level and Seb is one of those. He is a very good player and one that I am sure our supporters will know of.'

The Russian gaffer went on to say.

'He is a versatile player who can play as a winger, as a number 10 and as an offensive midfielder - there are many positions possible for him. Seb has a lot of qualities - he is a very clever player, he is experienced and good at set-pieces. I really feel we have a good mix of experienced players and young players.'

With Hull's youthful outlook on things in the Championship opener against Aston Villa, Slutsky knew that a lot of people had spoken about the inexperience within our first team group and whilst it's quality and talent, not age, that matters to him, he knows somebody of Larsson's experience can only help our younger players.

'After the game at Aston Villa, a lot of people were talking to me about us having a lot of young players in the team but this doesn`t matter to me because I have a different evaluation of the situation - there are good players and not good players, the age doesn`t matter. A player being good is more important than what his age might be.'

Larsson is of course in line for his debut this weekend as we host Burton Albion at the KCOM Stadium at the weekend, but Slutsky warned that with him not having a full pre season as he was clubless, he's unlikely to start the game.

'Of course, Seb didn`t do pre-season with us and will only have two or three sessions with us before the weekend. However, he is very professional and I hope he can play on Saturday - maybe not 90 minutes but for some minutes I hope he will be ready.'
