Slutsky & Campbell Talk Reading

Slutsky & Campbell Talk Reading

Head coach Leonid Slutsky and striker Fraizer Campbell have both reflected on Hull City's draw with Reading on Saturday.

Heading to the Madejski Stadium for the Championship tie, Hull took the lead just ahead of the half hour mark with Campbell's first club goal following his summer's arrival from Crystal Palace but the hosts levelled matters with minutes remaining in the game to take a point and deny us victory.

Speaking to the Official Site as he met with the media for his post game press conference, a disappointed Slutsky explained.

'It's very difficult to analyse. We were very close to winning this one and we need a win to give us new air. We're disappointed because we controlled the match and Reading didn't have many chances. We had some chances, hit the bar, worked hard and were patient but we just need that win to come.'

He went on to say about the overall performance that really we needed the second goal on the day.

'I don't feel that we sat back. We conceded the goal after losing the ball in attack. We had players forward and it left spaces for Reading to work and score. We scored a very good goal and had chances to score more. Fraizer Campbell is now in good form after missing some weeks with an injury. He was anxious about not scoring before today, but hopefully now he will carry on.'

He added.

'The overall performance was better, but we need to win. We've had chances to beat Fulham, Sunderland and now Reading in the last couple of weeks but this is all a part of the process of building a new side. Kamil Grosicki missed the game with a small injury that he got in training on Friday.'

Campbell was also interviewed after the game following his goal, and he was disappointed to see us drop the three points.

'It was massively disappointing for us to only get a draw in the end. It's been well documented that we haven't been as good as we'd like to be away from home but it looked as though we were finally going to turn that around. Away games are always hard in the Championship and Reading are a difficult team to beat on their own ground, and so we are gutted that we've conceded a late equaliser and only come away with a point.'

He went on to say.

'We got ourselves in front and we were making it incredibly difficult for Reading to break us down. For 87 minutes we did the job perfectly and played to the plan which was to get ourselves a goal and make it hard for Reading to get back into it. Unfortunately, we spoilt things in the last few minutes.'

As for his own goal he knew it was a boost and hopefully the first of many to come.

'Personally it was a massive bonus to get the goal and to get that weight of scoring my first one off my shoulders, but it would have felt miles better if it had led to a 1-0 win. At the end of the day, it's a point away from home and hopefully we can move on to Tuesday when we face Preston at home and look to get three points.'
