Instant Reactions - Blackburn v Hull (6/1/18)

Following today's FA Cup clash between Blackburn Rovers and Hull City, here are the instant reactions from both managers.

Blackburn Rovers hosted Hull City at Ewood Park for a 3pm kick off on Saturday January 6, with the visitors taking a one nil victory courtesy of a goal from on loan Chelsea youngster Ola Aina.

The full back scored the only goal of the game two minutes before the hour mark but Blackburn will consider themselves unlucky to not have taken the lead in the first half when Paul Caddis' 20 yard volley hit the crossbar.

Teams:

Blackburn:

Leutwiler, Caddis, Nyambe, Mulgrew, Williams, Bennett, Tomlinson (Dack 61), Evans (Travis 43), Conway, Nuttall (Graham 61), Samuel.

Substitutes:

Raya, Hart, Downing, Wharton, Travis.

Hull:

Marshall, Aina, Hector, Tomori, Clark, Henriksen, Stewart (Meyler 80), Bowen, Evandro (Irvine 61), Toral, Diomande (Campbell 76).

Substitutes:

McGregor, Dicko, Clackstone, Hamilton.

Speaking to the BBC's cameras a short time after match day referee Oliver Langford blew the final whistle, Blackburn Rovers manager Owen Coyle explained.

'Our main target is to get out of this division and win league matches, so (Richie) Smallwood, probably our best player this year, wasn't even in the 18. Ultimately it's gone the other way but I've got no regrets on the selection of the team. Parts of the game I was disappointed in. The last half-hour was really good, first 10 minutes were really good. I think the worst result would have been a draw. Disappointed? Yes, but we move on now to the 21 cup finals we've got.'

Hull City gaffer Nigel Adkins in his comparative interview explained.

'We've played against a good side in Blackburn, you see them at the top of the league. Both teams obviously made a few changes. I thought the first half, probably for 35 minutes, we played some exquisite football. We just missed that final bit of putting the ball in the back of the net, with some of the football we played. In the second half, we scored a goal from a set-play. Obviously, when they put (Danny) Graham on, they were a bit more threatening, putting balls in especially from deep. But we've had to show that resilience, and block things to see out the game and the lads have gone and done that.'
