Hernandez Making Progress

Hernandez Making Progress

Hull City gaffer Nigel Adkins has said that Abel Hernandez is making progress as he bids to return to fitness following his ruptured Achilles.

The Uruguayan international has spent the last five months on the sidelines after picking up the injury in the defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers back in August, but he has now returned to light training in recent weeks and the expectation is that the 27 year old will return to full training next month.

Speaking to the Official Site this week, Adkins felt that Hernandez would be determined to hit the ground running when he is back in contention because he's got a World Cup spot to battle for.

'He`s working hard. His attitude is spot on. He needs to play as well. He`s got a World Cup to think about in the summer. The quicker he`s back is better for him and, importantly, for Hull City. He`s contracted to this club and he needs to keep working hard. I was on the training ground with Abel last week and he`s stepped things up with a bit more pitch-work.'

Adkins said that although progress was good, Hernandez was obviously still a way from returning to contention but he had an outside hope of maybe bringing him back into his thoughts in mid February time.

'There`s still a long way to go. If you look at the progression about what he`s doing on the training ground with the ball to actually being the star player we all know he is and can be in the first team. The plan is maybe the second week of February where is he? We`ll have to wait and see.'
