Mason Forced To Retire Following Head Injury

Mason Forced To Retire Following Head Injury

Hull City confirmed a short time ago this morning that midfielder Ryan Mason has taken the decision to hang up his boots following advice.

The 26 year old suffered a horrific head injury back on January 22, 2017 in the Premier League encounter with Chelsea and he has obviously been out of action since then as he recovered from the injury.

A brief statement from the club read.

'It is with deep regret that the Club has to announce that, following the head injury suffered on 22nd January 2017, Ryan Mason is to retire from football with immediate effect. Ryan has sought the guidance of numerous world renowned neurologists and neuro surgeons who have all advised that a return to competitive football is not advised. Ryan would like to put on record his thanks to all at the Club who have aided his recovery to this point and he his is indebted to them for their support and compassion over the past 12 months.'

It's not the news anyone wanted as we all hoped we'd see him back on the pitch shortly, but it's certainly not worth the risk.

Following his arrival from Tottenham Hotspur back at the end of August 2016, he made 15 starting appearances for Hull, with a further five showings from the bench and in that time he scored twiced.

The one time England cap made over 150 appearances in total, finding the net 18 times.

I'm sure everyone would join with me in wishing him the best for his future.
