We Got Exactly What We Deserved - Nothing
On loan Chelsea youngster Ola Aina has admitted that Hull City got exactly what they deserved from the midweek tie against Middlesbrough - nothing.
Heading to the Riverside Stadium on Tuesday evening, Hull travelled home on the back of a three one defeat and only goal difference now keeps the side out of the bottom three.
Speaking to the Official Site as he met with the media following the game, Aina admitted that there was a deep sense of frustration in the dressing room following the game as the players knew they had to be better in key moments, and when we weren't, Middlesbrough took full advantage of that.
'We knew it would be a tough game and we went with a game plan - it was set up for us to perform but we didn`t do that to a standard that is suitable to win a game. We weren`t ruthless in the final third and there were a few mistakes at the other end that have cost us.'
With Hull dominating possession across the game, we even had more shots on target than the hosts, but Aina knew that counted for nothing unless you achieve something with statistics.
'Match stats are irrelevant if you`re not winning. We gave ourselves a mountain to climb. We kept going but at 3-1 down we`re chasing the game. We lost the game and everybody is majorly disappointed. We felt as though the system that we played could be an exciting one. We haven`t played it for a while and there were glimpses of good play, but we haven`t got that much time and we need to start winning games somehow.'
With home games against Sheffield United and Barnsley next up, Aina did realise it was a quick chance to turn around our form and lift spirits within the group and the fanbase. Although he did say the players remained confident of the task ahead of them.
'The camp is always positive and we go into the next two games knowing that we need to cut out the sloppy mistakes. We`ll keep the faith and belief that we can turn things around. It`s been a bad period for the Club and we need to try and change that.'
