We Paid The Price For Costly Errors

We Paid The Price For Costly Errors

Hull City head coach Nigel Adkins has bemoaned silly and avoidable errors for costing us in the midweek defeat to Middlesbrough.

Heading to the Riverside Stadium for Tuesday evening's tie, Hull came out with a three one loss on the day and Adkins' frustration was clear to see as he spoke to the media at the full time whistle.

Speaking to the Official Site to give his thoughts on the defeat, the gaffer was adamant that everything that went against us in the game was avoidable and he expected far better from the players than the performance they delivered.

'The three goals we conceded were awful and aren`t acceptable. We came with a game plan and started reasonably well. We changed our formation and there was nothing wrong with that. You look at the game and we`ve had 66% possession away from home, more shots on target than the home team and more penalty area entries.'

Adkins went on to say about the goals conceded.

'With their first goal, we have to stop the cross. It was too easy for Middlesbrough to score that goal. We scored an excellent goal to get level - it`s one off the training ground and it was an excellent finish from Evandro. You`re thinking 'right, we`re in the game now`. We then concede a second goal bang on half time - a lack of concentration, we give the ball away and it gifts them the opportunity and they take it. The third goal - Traore is always going to be a threat for them and he works his way through, the finish was a little bit fortunate from the striker.'

With few positives for him to take and focus on it left him continuing to talk about the errors.

'The three goals that we conceded were unacceptable. Middlesbrough are a direct side and if you can`t compete against that, you have to go the other way and keep possession. When you gift goals to the opposition, you`ve got no chance at all. It`s frustrating because it`s something I thought we had eradicated. It`s individual mistakes and they have to be better than that. Mentally there`s a lack of concentration on that field from some individuals.'

In other news, Adkins also confirmed that Harry Wilson missed the game with a shoulder injury and he will also miss the game against Sheffield United on Friday evening.

Leading scorer Jarrod Bowen also missed the game as he's picked up a hamstring injury. A late assessment will be made on him prior to Friday's fixture but he is certainly a doubt.
