Four Penalties Turn The Tide - Hull v Norwich

Four Penalties Turn The Tide - Hull v Norwich

Following Saturday's clash between Hull City and Norwich City, here are the instant reactions from both managers.

Hull City hosted Norwich City at the KCOM Stadium on Saturday March 10, with the hosts taking a four three victory on the day in a rollercoaster for fans.

Jackson Irvine scored in the sixth minute for the hosts, but Norwich rebounded and saw James Maddison find the net from the penalty spot in the 18th minute before helping himself to a brace with an effort one minute later to give Norwich a two one advantage. Six minutes from the half time break Maddison completed his hattrick with a second penalty.

Hull then started a fightback of their own, as Abel Hernandez scored from the spot in the 41st minute before adding a second three minutes after the restart - again from the penalty spot.

The scoring was completed when Harry Wilson scored inside of the final 20 minutes to tie the points up.

Norwich's seven game unbeaten run comes to an end, but Hull move up the table by two places and are now six points clear of the drop.

Marshall, Aina, Dawson, Mazuch, Clark, Larsson, Henriksen, Bowen (Toral 88), Irvine, Wilson (Hector 90+1), Hernandez (Campbell 61).

Grosicki, Dicko, Tomori, Burton.

Gunn, Reed (Hoolahan 79), Hanley, Klose, Lewis, Tettey, Leitner (Pinto 29), Watkins, Maddison, Hernandez (Murphy 79), Oliveira.

Husband, Vrancic, Srbeny, McGovern.

Speaking to the BBC's cameras a short time after match day referee Tim Robinson blew the final whistle, Hull head coach Nigel Adkins explained.

'I thought the players were magnificent. We've gone behind but we've responded, we've kept our composure. Great credit to the players. It's a fantastic performance in my eyes, the character shown by the players having gone 3-1 down. It's a big three points.'

Norwich gaffer Daniel Farke in his comparative interview explained.

'I don't want to comment on the third goal for Hull because I think it's quite obvious, everyone in the stadium sees what happened there. Four penalties in a game, normally a free-kick or corner situation is pretty good for a penalty because you find someone with a hand on the shirt. I think in this situation someone waited for an opportunity to give this penalty. It was not even close to a penalty. You have to accept it though. It's hard to accept the loss because we were able to score three times.'
