Hull 0 - 0 Portsmouth - Report

Phil Brown accepted the boos of a tense and frustrated home crowd as his side drew 0-0 with fellow league strugglers Portsmouth at the KC Stadium.

In fact, apart from two long range strikes from Dean Marney, it could have been much worse for the Tigers who survived thanks to a combination of poor finishing from the visitors and some lucky deflections, most noticeably when Dindane saw his shot blocked by Kaboul with the ball heading past a stranded Boaz Myhill.

It was also the former of the Welsh international that kept City in the game, first denying Dindane from close range before palming Yebda`s effort away for a corner. A late free-kick, given away by the on-rushing Myhill for which he received a yellow card, represented Pompey`s last chance as O`Hara shot over to end a disappointing game.

The Tigers day did not start well, with Jozy Altidore being sent home for arriving at the KC Stadium late - an incident that has since seen the American striker fined following his public apology via his Twitter page. Midfielder Jimmy Bullard was also absent, with the club refusing to risk the record signing after he received a gash to his shin during a reserve defeat to Wigan Athletic.

The lack of creativity in Bullard`s absence was noticeable, with City only registering one effort on target as they followed up their poor effort against Fulham with another showing that has led many to question Phil Brown`s position at the helm of this club. Whilst Brown does not appear any closer to leaving, the growing pressure and fan frustration was evident at the KC on Saturday.

Phil Brown though attempted to place a positive spin on the situation, revealing the boos show how far the club has progressed since their promotion from the Coca-Cola Championship;

"It is testimony to how far this club has come that the crowd have gone home disappointed with a point"

Mr Brown, you're evading the point. It's the fact that your team isn't inspiring to watch anymore, it's drab, negative football. West Ham 'only' got a point on Sunday, do you think they went home disapointed? I think not. When we lost 4-3 at OT it 'felt' like a win cos we'd battled back and shown spirit and courage. If we go to Burnley and actually have a go at them, I think you'll find the fans will warm to you again. They're not booing the players, Mr Brown, they know who gives the orders on matchdays..
